The Heart of India A Road Trip : Madhya Pradesh

Four family travelled 4000 kilometres over 14 days in four automobiles. Some might describe the trek as impossible. But there we were, travelling by car to the enchanted Madhya Pradesh, also known as the "Heart of India.

1. The Heart of India is Madhya Pradesh:-

It so happens that one of my home states is Madhya Pradesh (MP). With forts and palaces (Maheshwar, Gwalior, and Orchha), jungles (Panna, Ken, Kanha, Satpuda, and Bhimbetka), temples (Khajuraho, Datia, and Maihar), hills (Pachmarhi), rivers (Narmada & Ken), and lakes, it has a lot to offer (Bhopal). And that's just where we went! But Madhya Pradesh is much more than just this. Every 200 to 400 kilometres in Madhya Pradesh, there is something interesting to view, therefore it is preferable to drive your own car and explore the area. Driving gives you freedom of movement and time (something that a train may not be able to do). Furthermore, you will need to rent a car because airports are not always close to where you want to go. So it is preferable to choose a road vacation.  The majority of the state's roadways are in decent shape. The state and federal roadways you'll travel on are generally well-built, but certain parts are incredibly well-developed. To make them wider or better, work is being there, though. Currently, this causes detours, which can make travelling a little tiresome.

2. How We Started:-

got going in Mumbai. The best routes to get to Madhya Pradesh are the 600-mile one-way legs from Mumbai to Indore and Indore to Mumbai. Even a cautious and relatively slow driver like me can complete the trip between these two locations in 12 hours (with reasonable breaks built-in).  Children may take time getting ready, you may just want to rest after a long drive, work may interfere, adding an unknown and uncertain variable, and lastly, incidents that require your immediate attention.  As an alternative, you can begin and end your MP trip in Indore and fly into and out of this well-connected city. The total distance from Mumbai to MP to Mumbai is close to 4,000 kilometres. There are some long driving days, so it is best to take a break after a long journey if you are not used to driving for extended periods of time. Save additional days as a safety net. For instance,  my only activity in Gwalior was reading "Where Are You Now?" by Mary Clark Higgins. Nothing beats spending a winter morning reading a book while lounging on the Taj Usha Kiran's lawn with the sun at your back. At Kanha, the majority of our staff took similar action. Sometimes all you need is some alone time or some time with the group.

3. Where to Go:-

1. Maheshwar:-

On the journey from Mumbai to Indore, this interesting brief detour is made up of the Shiv Panchayat, Tani-bani sarees, the fort's history, and Ahalya Bai. According to both Wikipedia and local guides, this location was formerly known as Mahishmati (so, Bahubali aficionados, go see where the history actually started).

2. Indore:-

We didn't get a chance to see the historical sites in Indore because the city served as the anchor for both legs of our journey. Both times, we had long drives to get to Indore. We only went into the restaurants at Chappan Dukan, then. There is a lot more to see and do in the city and some of the neighbouring places. Since we can always return here more conveniently, Indore remained unexplored during a lengthy MP vacation.

Bhopal: -

The City of Lakes offers great evening excursions and speedboat experiences, which we used. When you get to the boarding place and can watch the sun sinking over the lake from the speedboat, pay attention to the traffic.

Sanchi: -

Of the three UNESCO World Heritage sites in MP, this was the first we visited. You can happily spend hours learning about the history of the Ashokan era if you find a skilled guide. Time just whizzed by for us! The perspective from which the imprint on the new Rs. 200 note has been taken in a common photo spot. Do not overlook the location if you are there.

Bhimbetka: -

In just one day, we arrived at the second World Heritage Site! Once more, a good guide can help you stay current on some fascinating human history that dates back tens of thousands of years and some absolutely stunning scenes to shoot. Keep in mind that you'll be moving around a lot at Bhimbetka and  Sanchi. Consider that as well.

Dhuadhar Falls: -

We didn't see the Raneh falls, but Dhuadhar did not let us down. The spectators are completely covered in the mist created by the cascading water.

Enjoy Madhya Pradesh:-

When it comes to domestic tourism in India, MP has generally been one of the most undervalued locations. I sincerely hope you choose to travel down this wonderful route since it will provide you with a wealth of options and lifelong memories.
